THE FAT BOY CHRONICLES dvd review
ABOUT THE MOVIE
Jimmy Winterpock at age fourteen is 5'5 and weighs 187 pounds. Outside the comfort of his family and church, life for Jimmy is a constant struggle. The cruel taunts of his classmates make going to school or playing sports a humiliating experience. Yet, he still manages to focus on his goals; to lose weight and win over the girl of his dreams.
Now I have always been a fuller girl. By that I do not mean overweight but I was the tallest girl throughout most of my younger years in school. I also was not "model skinny" as I like to call it but more like thick. I had meat on me - let's put it like that. So when I received this movie, I could feel all my old insecurities coming back up. In school, a lot of guys wanted smaller girls than me. Now I never got taunted about being fat but I did have some people make comments about my larger size than my older sister. Keep in mind she is also like 6 inches shorter than me too with a petite frame. So I can understand the hurtful comments some people say especially adults.
The movie made me want to cry at times just because I know how hard it can be struggling with weight issues. I do like the fact that Jimmy's parents were supportive with him. My parents were too. I also like the fact that it does not just address the weight issues but issues that all teens can possibly relate to in their lives.
Also another great issue covered is bullying. It is so sad how common this is becoming. One of my children actually had to deal with a bully at school as well (not sure why the bully was even doing it) so i try to stress to all 3 of my children that bullying is not funny or right. I plan on showing this movie to my son before he starts middle school which is approaching fast. I want him to see the great lessons this movie has to offer.
I recommend this movie to anyone with a pre-teen or teen kid. This movie can be a real eye-opener and also a great teacher film. The movie is currently available where dvds are sold and online at Amazon.com for $ 24.99. Be sure to share this movie with your family.
