JOHN CARTER dvd review

From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton (Best Animated Film, Wall-E, 2008) comes John Carter -- a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs's classic novel, John Carter is a war-weary, former military captain who's inexplicably transported to Mars and reluctantly becomes embroiled in an epic conflict. It's a world on the brink of collapse, and Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. Stunning special effects, great characters and villains -- and complete with extraordinary bonus features -- John Carter is a heroic and inspirational adventure that will thrill you beyond imagination.

MY THOUGHTS

I was really excited to get to review this movie.  It looked really good from the previews.  I have to say the special effects are amazing in this movie.  It looks simply beautiful!  Now the movie is a little predictable but it still makes a great story.  I was intrigued in it from the beginning although my fiancee was not as much ( he slept through parts).  I do have to say that I wish it explored the characters more.  I would have liked more depth with them.  I was left wanting to know more about the Therns and all.

I do have to say the movie has me interested in reading the book that it is based on.  I am curious to see if the movie or book is better in this case.  Although I have a feeling I already know the answer to that.

The movie is available where dvds are sold and online at Amazon.com for $ 17.99.  So be sure to grab a copy or at least rent the movie and see the amazing effects.

  1. Nice review! I just watched John Carter last night after receiving it in the mail from my Blockbuster @Home package, and can definitely agree with your thoughts about it. It was predictable, but in the end I really enjoyed the beauty of it and the characters. My boyfriend wasn’t too interested either, just like your fiancĂ©e, and ending up falling asleep during the last half hour or so. Which I think is funny, because he was the one who talked me into renting it, lol! The ending was probably the biggest shocker for me, but I’m very glad it ended the way it did. A couple of my coworkers at Dish are pretty interested in seeing this film as well, so I’m definitely pretty excited no late fees are involved with my rental services, so I can keep the DVD a little bit longer (hopefully my boyfriend watches the ending too). :)
