About the Author

Derek the Ghost is an eleven-year-old ghost who haunts the classrooms and hallways of Scary School writing down all the spine-tingling, often hilarious things that go on there. Despite his ghostly state, Derek still enjoys reading comic books and hopes to one day become a master ninja. If that doesn't work out, he will continue to share the fun of this very special, very secret school, so all kids can experience the scariest school on Earth.

My Thoughts

I am a huge fan of all things supernatural like vampires and werewolves so when I heard about the upcoming book for release called Scary School.  I immediately knew I had to review it with my son.  The book is targeted for children ages 9-12 but I found it to be a super funny and quick read for me as well.  I also loved the illustrations provided throughout the book to help the readers get an even better sense of what Derek the Ghost was trying to describe.

The book starts out with a new kid at a new school.  Pretty typical huh?  Well, try being an average kid at a school full of supernatural beings and monsters like a vampire teacher and bully, a witch for a nurse, and a T-Rex as the detention teacher.  The book is filled with humor and unique characters.  I read the whole book in one sitting and found it very entertaining.  One of my favorite parts is when Ms. fang gets mad and well drains a kid of blood for calling her by the wrong name.  (You will need to read the book to see what happens to the kid). I can not wait for my son to read it as well so he can give me his input on it, but I am sure he will love it.

The book actually offers nice messages and lessons throughout it in a very unique way.  Another great feature of the book is at the end there is a secret chapter that you have to access online by going to scaryschool.com and taking Ms. Fangs quiz to find out what happened on the last day.  There are also tons of other things to do on the website like meet the students and faculty and even tour the school.

The book will be released next Tuesday June 21 were most books are sold and you can preorder a copy online at Amazon.com for $ 10.65.  Trust me it is well worth that price.  It is a great book that will have you "bursting at the seems" with laughter.  Perfect for the little bookworm in your life.  I am anxiously awaiting the next book by Derek the Ghost and I know you will be too as soon as you read this book.

* I received the above mentioned book solely for review purposes.  The above opinion is completely honest and completely my own.
